So, What Exactly is Innovation?
1. A new idea!
2. Something that is positively life-changing
3. The development of a solution that can be commercialized
4. All of the Above!
Innovation is one of those terms that are very commonly thrown around without many people really knowing what it truly means. Why is that so? We think a big reason for that is because innovation is so broad, so out-of-the-box that there is no easy way to describe or teach about it without seeing it in action. Although “invention” or “creativity” hits close to home, here’s a simpler way to think about it: innovation is something that improves your life in one way or another. Whereas invention is merely a product or an idea, innovation in itself—whether it be to make things easier, faster, cheaper, more comfortable or accessible— creates value for the world.
How? There are many types of innovation (in which we’ll be sharing about throughout your journey of discovery with us), but one central theme that sets innovation apart is that it has potential to be, or is, commercialized. That’s where value is generated. Because what good is an idea if only you and one or two people know about or use it? Innovation in its entirety is complex, out-of-the-ordinary, and may sometimes be mind-boggling. However, all in all, it’s something that makes a difference in this world and is definitely worth learning about. As long as you have an open, curious, and inquisitive mind, you’re already halfway there!
